Hey, let's do a little entry about work stuff. It'll help me place all of these thoughts in a timeline when I am writing my memoirs.
Since, I don't know, late spring, I have been working at a tiny little coffee shop called Starbucks. It's my third (and dear God, please be my last) time working for the company. It's not a horrible job all things considered. Early mornings though. I woke up at 3:00 this morning so as to be there bright and cheery at 4:30.
I should mention quickly what happens during that hour and a half of being awake but not at work.
It's a thirty minute drive to the Starbucks that I work at. Silly, I know, since I drive by at least five other Starbucks to get to mine. But given that my last departure with the company was less than favorable (a great story if anyone is interested) I had to go to the store where my friend could vouch for me. So that's where I work.
The hour of being awake but not driving or working, is spent with my morning routine. This consists of the following (always in this order):
1. Pee
2. Read my daily bible reading. I am leading a group of Christians, Atheists and inbetweeners through the bible in a year. We all read the same passage each day and then share our thoughts in the Facebook group. No one else will share their thoughts unless I post a discussion question, so I try to do so every other day or so. Right now, we are reading Isaiah.
3. After the bible reading, I go to gocomics.com and read my favorite syndicated comic strips. Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, and a few others that aren't great but I used to love as a kid like Wizard of Id and Frank and Ernest.
4. Then I watch the Daily Show and eat breakfast. I hope the new kid is as funny as Jon Stewart. If he's not, he'll really mess up my routine.
5. 1-4 usually takes around forty-fifty minutes. I take the remaining time to brush my teeth and put on clothes. It only takes me ten minutes. It's good to be a guy.
So that's been my life. Wake up, do the routine, go to work, get off around noon, do homework until about 5, be in bed by 8.
But that's about to change.
Starting August 10th, I will be working at my university as a Supplemental Instructor. I will sit through a class I have already taken (Intro to Philosophy. A favorite subject of mine) and then will lead a study group afterwords. I'll help students with their homework and study habits and be a general academic facilitator.
And I get paid to do it!
Additionally, I will be a TA for Intro to Women's Studies. I don't get paid for that gig, but I do get school credit and an impressive addition to my resume.
So from Monday to Thursday, my job will just be school and helping people with school. I won't have to get up as early and will be able to actually teach and engage in subjects I care about.
Friday through Sunday still belong to the green aproned corporate god, but only for about 15 hours a week or so.
No days off, but still pockets of time to be social.
Or not be social, as the case will probably be.
Anyway, I am excited right now. I hope it is as great as I think it will be.
