on a lighter note (on account of my being slightly bi-polar and being in a wonderful mood today despite how much i hated everything the last few days.)
the dude (big lebowski) got coffee from me yesterday. i swear to God its true. the way he looked, dressed and talked it was uncanny.
in a very dude like fashion he had never seen the big lebowski, but did think it was cool to be compared to one of the daniels brothers.
he stayed and talked to me for sometime, which was great even in itself, but then the dude went a step further. the dude saved my evening.
while making the drink for the dude, (grande caramal macchiato in a venti, cup, on account of us not having white russians at starbucks) one of the numerous girls that i have fallen in love with without ever talking to comes up to me.
"i know you from somewhere." she says.
"yeah, you were the girl standing on the street corner listening to the guy with the clarinet."
(i saw her the week before listening to a street musician playing thelonious monk on a clarinet. i stopped and listened for a while myself, but left soon after on account that my roomate was tired and has no appreciation for fine jazz or for the unspoken, but yet sincere love that was shared between this mystery girl and i. i told her that she had a nice watch)
"yeah, i thought i knew you."
we began to talk.
she was headed to the midnight showing of harry potter. i lied by saying that i was also planning to go.
then, enter the dude.
"so man, is this your girlfriend?"
"no dude, we just met."
"dude man, you guys need to be together. i can totally see it. you would make such a great couple. why dont you get a little conversation going."
so we did, but she had to leave on account of her two (literal) homosexual friends who wanted to make sure they got good seats.
before she left i cited the movie "serendipity" and told her that if it is meant to be i will run into her again.
she liked the sound of that and told me her name was kate.
the dude and i talked some more, leaving me with a strong sense that i should life to the fullest.
i got off work and headed for harry potter.
but alas, which theater do i go to? there are like five in town that are doing the harry potter at midnight thing.
i made a quick decision and decided to go to the one nearest to my house.
the movie was playing on two different screens.
i randomly picked one, then randomly picked and aisle, and then there she was, saving a seat for me.
SERENDIPITY!
now it really doesnt matter what happened after that. i am not in love with this girl. i will never marry her.
the point is that the dude (or maybe it was a nike commercial) was right.
life is short, play hard.
(yeah, that was a nike commercial. i guess the dude really had nothing to do with this story.)
so realizing the shortness of life, i am now trying to take opportunities when they arise and allow serendipity and joy to have a permenant seat in my mental council.
side note: i said that a movie seemed "gay" in front of one of the gay guys that was with kate. is that wrong of me?
