sometimes under the guise of "trying something new" i go to places to make fun of them.
tonight: a christian hip-hop concert.
i was a little curious as to who would be in attendance.
surprisingly, there were actually a few black people.
(one performed)
it was like a photo-negative of eminem's "eight mile".
this one guy trying to prove that black people also have a place in the world of christian hip-hop.
spirit of elvis was in that place sick.
(elvis was infamous for stealing black music and making it pre-dominantly white.)
and somehow, i think that two white kids saying "come on, shake your booties ya'll" has a different effect on me then what they originally intended.
which, of course, was uproarious laughter.
i left because i grew tiresome of being told to throw my hands up.
i figure that a band that has to repeatedly try to get a crowd enthused is the equivolent of a stand up comic who has to keep telling the audience "that was a joke"
if your good enough the crowd will get it on its own.
but you see, my night has been doubly fun.
not only did i have the pleasure of getting to be critical, i also got to be cultured.
the dallas musuem of art-feeling sympathetic for us cheapskates-has free admission on thursday nights.
not only that but they also have a decent jazz band playing.
ooh yeah, i feel like a hipster.
jazz
art
criticism of music that i am powerless to create.
its the definition of cool.
and i, i am the cool of cool
