since i have never actually wrote about it, i will now explain what i do.
deep ellum is an area right outside downtown dallas, and is infamous for being the party part of town. it is also a hotbed of cultural and artistic expression.
in the heart of deep ellum is a coffee shop called insomnia.
originally insomnia was a gothic hangout. some named it a "gateway to hell" due to the amount of cultic and drug activity that was present there.
in the late nineties a kid from a local bible college started a church in deep ellum.
in the early 2000's that church purchased insomnia.
the coffee shop is intended for the purpose of what we call "relational evangelism"
basically this means make friends with people, and show Jesus through your lifestyle before you shove the gospel down their throat.
our goal is to be culturally relevant without comprimising the name of Jesus.
i am officially a missionary with my denomination. this means that my paycheck comes through the monthly support of churches and individual donors.
it is my job to help people find Jesus
problem is, i dont know where he is myself.
hence, the current struggle.
and thats my story
