there is a string of mylar that has come to live in the tree outside my window.
it arrived there by attaching itself to a bright red balloon, now punctured, still tied to the string.
i always forget that its there until it yells out to me in sparkles.
i have named it marvin.
marvin the mylar string.
my friend cammy came to visit yesterday.
she was the first non-family visitor that i have had in the springs.
she saw the town.
my apartment.
met my girlfriend.
i showed my paintings and drawings like the proud six year old that i can sometimes be.
i took her to my favorite pizza place.
and we talked.
we talked about ted haggard.
we talked about the politic ramifications of this city:
1/3 military
1/3 evangelical
1/3 people who dislike either or both military and evangelicals.
we talked of many things.
and all of it was good.
it makes me excited to visit (God willing) paul and laura in missouri.
it makes me hopeful that more people will visit me here.
now, more window like observations:
directly below my bedroom window is the parking lot of a black church.
the white janitor has just pulled up.
